Welcome to the CSD Governance Professional Learning Community (PLC). In preparation for the board retreat, you will be supplied several "pre-reads" and questions will be posted to this blog for you to share your reflections of your learning, ideas and opinions . Please use this as intended, as a learning community tool. Please do not discuss board issues and decisions in this space, so as not to violate open-meetings laws. The retreat will be held August 26 and 27, at a place to be announced soon.
One of our PLC books is Drive by Daniel Pink. You should have received the book is by now. If not please let Sharon know and she will make sure you get a copy. Please complete the book before the retreat. The following are guiding questions to support your reading and reflection:
1.) According to Pink what has recent research revealed to be the key drivers of peak performance. How do good leaders create an environment where self-motivation can flourish and improvement and results are sustainable?
2) What do you need to learn more about in order to make good policy and budget decisions about remuneration, rewards and recognition in CSD?
3) Race to the Top supports merit pay and pay for performance. Pink explains what research has found to work best to motivate performance that is grounded in the science of human motivation including our innate ability to direct our own lives, to learn, to create new things, and to do better by ourselves ad our world. Given what you have read in Drive, what advice would you give those who are implementing Race to the Top?
4) Pages 174 through 184 provides ideas for parents and educators. What ideas in that chapter were relevant to you? To CSD?
5) What is meaningful work a district governance team and school leadership teams can do to support a motivating context for 21st century teaching and learning?
Please share your reflections and answers to the questions here.
